Judgment and its commentary

Read the received text first, then its Tuan commentary.

The judgment on the hexagram as a whole.
Judgment

Yi indicates that with firm correctness there will be good fortune. We must look at what we are seeking to nourish, and by the exercise of our thoughts seek for the proper aliment.

Tuan Zhuan — commentary explaining the name, Judgment, and line structure.
Commentary on the Judgment

Yi indicates good fortune through being firm and correct: when nourishment is correct, there is good fortune. Heaven and Earth nourish all things; the sages nourish the worthy, and through them all the people.

James Legge · 1899

The Great Image derives conduct from the two trigrams' natural images; it is not a continuation of the Tuan.

Trigrams

Whole image

(The trigram representing) a mountain and under it that of thunder form Yi.

Conduct

The superior man, in accordance with this, is careful of his words, and temperate in eating and drinking.
