Judgment and its commentary

Read the received text first, then its Tuan commentary.

The judgment on the hexagram as a whole.
Judgment

Da Guo suggests to us a beam that is weak. There will be advantage in moving (under its conditions) in any direction whatever; there will be success.

James Legge · 1899
Tuan Zhuan — commentary explaining the name, Judgment, and line structure.
Commentary on the Judgment

In Da Guo we see the great ones in excess. The weakness is at both ends. The strong is excessive but is in the central places; we have humility and pleased satisfaction in action — there will be advantage in advancing.

James Legge · 1899

The Great Image derives conduct from the two trigrams' natural images; it is not a continuation of the Tuan.

Conduct

The superior man, in accordance with this, stands up alone and has no fear, and retires from the world without regret.
